The Magic Diet

I’d like to introduce you to the Magic Diet for losing weight and gaining energy!

Actually, there’s no such thing as a magic diet. But incorporating more protein into your diet is kind of like a magic bullet.

For us women over 30, every year we lose muscle mass. Muscle is essential for maintaining our strength and balance, especially as we age. Muscle also burns more fat and speeds up your metabolism. Simply, the more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns at rest to keep functioning.

Protein helps sustain our muscles. But more than that, it supports bone health and the immune system. For women, it is especially important because of the role it plays in hormone production, helping to balance moods, energy levels and overall well being.

When trying to lose weight, protein keeps us fuller and satiated longer which can lead to less snacking and overeating. It also helps regulate blood sugar levels by slowing down the absorption of glucose, reducing sugar spikes and dips and consequently reducing craving for sugary snacks. It even reduces the hunger hormone ghrelin and increases the peptides (PYY and GLP-1), the same ones found in Ozemic) that tell your brain that you’re full.

Protein enhances fat burning and because it has a higher thermic effect compared to fats and carbs, the body uses more calories just to digest and metabolize it.

Now protein does not do this magic along. It is an essential part of a balanced diet made up of healthy carbs and fats. But I focus on it, because we rarely have a deficit of carbs, yet most women fall way short of getting an adequate amount of protein. We actually need between 20-35 grams of protein per meal, along with protein rich snacks.

I know, that when I circle the pantry after 7pm that I haven’t had enough protein during the day. I invite you to pay attention to how much protein you eat at each meal and how you feel after eating it. How long until you’re hungry again? How are your energy levels? Is it hard/easy to add more protein to your diet? Does it help eliminate cravings later on? Click below to receive my easy reference list of top proteins. Type Protein Guide in the message space.
